“On the Lot”

“On the Lot” was a competition reality show created and executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett. (Picture “American Idol” for filmmakers.)

The show had 12,000 applicants. From those, 50 contestants were selected to participate in the first round of the show, a “hell week” challenge that involved various filmmaking challenges.

Those 50 were narrowed down to 18, who went on to participate in a weekly live show. Each week filmmakers would present a new short film and one would be eliminated.

I made it to place #4 on the show. Below are some of the shorts that I made.*

*Sadly they were shot in HD but the show only provided us SD copies, so apologies for the low-resolution.

“BROKEN PIPE DREAMS”

First short film made for entry. Contestants had 5 days to create based on a logline. Mine was “something is lost”.

“BACKSEAT DRIVING TEST”

First short made on the show. Assigned genre was comedy. Starring Lin Shaye

“AMERICAN HOE”

Third short made on the show. Assigned genre was comedy.

“DRESS FOR SUCCESS”

Fourth short made on the show. Starring Tatyana Ali, Janet Varney, and Eric Cahill.

“REPLICATION THEORY”

Second short film made for entry. Contestants had one week to create a 60 second original short.

“ANKLEBITERS”

Second short film made for entry. Assigned genre was horror.

“KEY WITNESS”

Fourth short made on the show. Assigned genre was action.

PERSONAL INTRO VIDEO

BONUS! This was my personal intro video that, along with my short film, got me into the top 50.
